If productivity increases are the key to economic success and are how shares of surplus may (can) be allocated, then the stagnation of US productivity in the last decade is part of the context from the political upheavals now being experienced.
Stagnant productivity would have contributed to the problems around the cost of loving for US voters & turned them against a party (Democrats) claiming the economy was doing well (in GDP terms)
