When old and grizzled programmers like myself lament the decline of our preferred languages, we also need to be careful to not let our egos get involved. Undeniably it hurts to be told the things you are good at using are no longer wanted, whatever the truth might be.
At the end of the day, unless we are building things for ourselves we will be constrained by politics and ignorance.
