Anyone know why the mastodon app only sometimes allows me to add alt text to a photo after posting by tapping the “edit” option?

The only way if it doesn’t work is to edit, delete the photo, and then re-add it with alt text and publish it again.

The option appears over the photo in the edit pane but it doesn’t bring up the typing cursor to let me type about half the time.
