On this second Sunday of Advent, I want to move our focus from the romanticized, sentimental Christmas scenes depicted on cards and pretty blinking lights adorning homes. Those sanitized scenes are for children. But adults need to remember the more complete picture of the Christmas story. Adults know – or we ought to know, as St Paul wrote, that the Lord Jesus Christ, “though He was rich, yet for [our] sake He became poor, so that [we] through His poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9)
